Thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and Van Dijk, the Netherlands beat the Canadian team in a friendly match to prepare for the European Championship. The match which took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, saw a well-balanced first half, but throughout the match the better technique of the Dutch team prevailed.

The match marked the debut of American coach Jesse Marsch, who managed to balance the match in the first half. With solid marking and shutting down the Netherlands’ offensive teams, Canada created a lot of difficulties for Ronald Koeman’s team.

One of the match’s flank duels was scored by Bayern Munich’s Canadian full-back Alphonso Davies and Bayern Leverkusen’s Dutch winger Fripong. And from the first stage, the Munich native had the advantage.

The Netherlands tried to transition quickly and with tables on the sides of the field, but the Canadian team managed to block the attempted shots, and when the ball headed towards the goal, goalkeeper Dayne St Clair prevented the Dutch goals. In the latter part of the first stage, the Dutch started to find more spaces and create the best chances so far, but without success.

Returning from the locker room, the situation was identical to that at the end of the first half, with the Netherlands putting more pressure and the Canadians feeling the physical aspect. And after just five minutes, Memphis Depay took advantage of a great action from Fripong and opened the scoring.

Seven minutes later it was Fripong’s turn to score a fine goal, with a disconcerting dribble at Davies, the Leverkusen striker shooting it onto his left foot and hitting the corner with no chance for St. Clair.

With the changes, the match showed the technical difference between the teams even more, the Dutch striker Weghorst, who had just entered, scored the third goal for the Netherlands. Another one who was on the bench and came to give the final numbers on the scoreboard was the defender Van Dijk, in a bad attempt by the Canadian goalkeeper, the Liverpool defender headed towards to score the fourth goal, 4- 0 Netherlands in Rotterdam.

The Netherlands will now play another friendly match on June 10 against Finland, then make their debut against Poland on the 16th in the European Championship. The Canadian team faces France on 06/9 and on 06/20 it makes its debut in the Copa América against Argentina.
