In unsurprising round, favorites advance to US Open tennis

On a Saturday (3) without surprises, the favorites qualified for the round of 16 of the US Open, which is played in New York.

On the women’s side, Polish number 1 Iga Swiatek won 2-0 against American Lauren Davis, with partials of 6/3 and 6/4. The Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, seeded 6, beat the French Clara Burel also by 2-0 (6/0 and 6/2).

8-seeded American Jessica Pegula struggled to eliminate Chinese qualifier Yue Yuan 2-1 (6/2 6/7 and 6/0).

Nadal reaches the round of 16

On the men’s side, the 2nd seed, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, made a quiet 3-0 over the French Richard Gasquet, with partials of 6/0 6/1 and 7/5.

Nadal’s compatriot and third seed Carlos Alcaraz beat American Jenson Brooksby 3-0, with a triple 6/3.

7th seeded Briton Cameron Norrie won 3-0 against 28th seeded Dane Holger Rune 3-0 (7/5 6/4 and 6/1)

Russian Andrey Rublev, seeded 9, beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov, seeded 29, by 3-2 (6/4 2/6 6/7 6/4 and 7/6) in a long confrontation.

Demoliner moves forward and Soares says goodbye to the courts

The day was already marked by the farewell to the courts of Bruno Soares, who announced the retirement after being eliminated on Friday (2) of the tournament.
