Kyle Kirkwood was the fastest driver in the opening practice of the tenth race of the IndyCar season, which took place in Toronto. In the activity carried out in the afternoon of this Friday (14) on the circuit installed in the streets of the Canadian city, the driver Andretti Autosport recorded at the best of his passages 1min00s8075, not being overtaken by his opponents .
The team led by Michael Andretti still saw Romain Grosjean take second place, 0s0500 from the time obtained by Kirkwood. McLaren’s Felix Rosenqvist finished third, followed by fellow Andretti driver Colton Herta. Scott McLaughlin, in a Penske outfit, finished fifth in Toronto.
Marcus Ericsson, driving a Chip Ganassi car, finished the session with the sixth fastest time, ahead of Alexander Rossi and Pato O’Ward, seventh and eighth in McLaren gear. Penske’s Josef Newgarden finished ninth and saw Will Power, one of his teammates, complete the top ten.
The one who had a first discreet activity in Toronto was Álex Palou. The Ganassi driver, leader of the championship and winner of the last three races, signed only the 12th time of the session which opened the Indy weekend in Canada. Helio Castroneves, on the other hand, showed a good performance with the Meyer Shank and remained with the 14th time.
IndyCar activities will continue this Saturday (15), first with the second free practice, at 11.35 a.m., then with the classification, at 3.50 p.m. The Toronto stage will take place on Sunday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
