In reference to World AIDS Day, celebrated every year on December 1, the Instituto Vida Nova, an NGO that welcomes people living with HIV/AIDS in the far east of São Paulo, organized an extensive program, with activities that reinforce the fight against stigma and discrimination, in addition to amplifying information for the general population. Among these activities, the highlight is the Miss & Mister Pessoa Living with HIV contest, unprecedented in Brazil, on December 6th.
Among the actions that will be carried out are: Lives, I=I Exhibition, Outdoor Installation, Conferences, Demonstration, Dissemination of information in the Metro and CPTM media.
The Miss & Mister competition aims to enhance the plural beauty of people living with HIV/AIDS, to enhance self-esteem, as well as to break down the barriers of stigma and prejudice associated with these bodies.
Along with the opening act of the Metropolitan Civil Guard Band of Itaquaquecetuba and other artistic attractions, the judges of the competition are members of the AIDS movement, managers, supporters and sponsors. Title winners will receive crowns, sashes, cash prizes and represent the competition at events for a year.
“The biggest contribution is to give space to these people to have a voice, to show themselves, to be recognized and to have the courage to do what they love, which is to be on a stage, on a podium representing and above all having self-esteem – esteem as a premise of quality of life,” shared Américo Nunes.
