The Brazilian delegation of the Porto & Mar Brasil-Israel 2023 International Mission, organized by the Tribuna Group, met on Monday (29), in Tel Aviv, with representatives of 13 Israeli startups to learn about technological solutions that can make ports and the foreign trade logistics chain the most efficient. Innovations for cargo operations, information security and bottleneck solutions have attracted the attention of businessmen and authorities.
For the meeting, which was part of the second day of the agenda in the Middle East, six round tables were organised, each of which could accommodate around ten people. Representatives of 13 Israeli startups operating in different fields presented their technological innovations to the Brazilians.
Attending the meeting were entrepreneurs specializing in business management software, professionals specializing in security against Internet attacks, a startup with technology aimed at low-speed autonomous vehicles and a company that uses organic materials to reduce oxidation of parts and equipment, caused by sea air.
According to the Israelis, among the objectives of these innovations is the reduction of risks and expenses, in addition to optimizing existing resources, but the main objective of the systems developed is security.
An attack can disrupt a company’s work for hours or even days. Which, in the case of port activity, would generate a million dollar loss.
One of the startups focuses on helping businesses that have suffered virtual attacks. Another, in security validation, i.e. it attacks the environment itself to identify vulnerable areas and correct defects, thereby increasing security.
The security-focused technology caught the eye of Brazilian Association of Port Terminals (ABTP) CEO Jesualdo Silva, who is part of the Porto & Mar Brazil-Israel 2023 International Mission.
“We have seen a company that, using software, manages to complete a vulnerability test in six hours. Both in the operating system and in the administration system. So, it’s very interesting because the companies working on it today sometimes take days”.
But Jesualdo also pointed to technological innovations for port operations that can make terminals more efficient. “A company here has shown a way to improve the management of systems, containers, so that when the ship arrives, the terminal is ready to guarantee productivity.”
The president of the National Federation of Maritime Navigation Agencies (Fenamar), Marcelo Neri, recalled the importance of ships and ports for the supply chain.
“The port has an essential function. And that part of innovation and technology is great for alleviating bottlenecks. For what? Because the port user wants to reduce the transport time of the goods, of his product, he wants the ship to spend less time in the port and the cargo to spend less time inside the warehouse. Technology is an accelerator for business.
Neri also said that the exchange of information between entrepreneurs and startups helps identify more solutions. He found an interesting camera surveillance system for shipping safety and suggested improving the technology so that the cargo owner could monitor the movement.
“I can be in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, or even in another country, I can see the movement in real time with reports, expenses and statistics. I asked him if it would be adaptable and he said that was a good idea.
