In the sights of Sao Paulo, Yeferson Soteldo can win a great competition at Toronto FC. The Canadian club, who play in MLS, were close to signing Italian striker Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli, a player with similar characteristics to the Venezuelan, a fact which could mean easier for the former number 10 to leave Santos .
Soteldo is unhappy with the Canadian club. Knowing this, São Paulo, who are interested in the player, traveled to Toronto with the intention of loaning the Venezuelan out. Giving the player away in this way, however, is of no interest to the MLS club, who are only willing to trade the forward on a permanent basis. Without money and in a financial crisis, Tricolor rules out this possibility, unless it finds an investor willing to pay for the hiring.
Insigne’s possible arrival reduces Soteldo’s space, as under MLS financial fair play rules, each team can have three athletes with salaries above the cap. Soteldo is one of them in Toronto so the Canadian club should make room for the Italian.
Thus, São Paulo continues to monitor the striker’s situation. Morumbi’s club already know that Soteldo’s wages are way above what he can afford and continue to view the deal as unlikely.
