A representative for Bieber told the outlet The Associated Press that the singer would have to be assisted by an oxygen mask and take 20 minutes of rest during the performance. Bieber later posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed, shirtless and wearing headphones, with the caption: “I get better listening to Janis Joplin.”

The 19-year-old singer showed signs of weakness during the performance of “Beauty and a Beat,” as seen in a fan-posted video (see below, around the 1:35 mark), which shows him supporting with his hands on his knees, as if trying to catch his breath, before slowly walking to the back of the stage.

“When he started ‘Beauty and a Beat,’ you could see he was struggling [para se manter em pé]”He drank several glasses of water, which is not normal, and he seems to be quite wet, sweating a lot. Eventually, he goes backstage. You don’t see him fainting. He sent the dancers on stage to entertain us, but I knew something was wrong at that point.”

The singer returned to the stage to perform what he called the PA “impotent versions” of “Boyfriend” and “Baby.”

After going to the hospital, Bieber tweeted: “Thank you all for helping me get through tonight. You guys are the best fans in the world. Trying to process what happened. Thank you for your love.”

The incident is the latest in a turbulent season in London: the singer showed up two hours late for his first concert at the O2, angering young fans and their parents; last week he wrote that his 19th birthday was his “worst birthday ever.” And earlier this week, the singer complained that the media were writing “fake stories to sell the papers.”

A spokesperson for the O2 Arena said Bieber had been released from hospital and would perform at Friday’s show.
