The actress Uma Thurman, known for starring in the saga Kill Billfaces another legal battle, but this time she wants to get back the money she lost in a millionaire coup.
The artist was the victim of a scam set up by one of her assistants and lost the value of 2.5 million dollars – which would be equivalent to almost ten million reais – as she fought in court for custody of her youngest daughter, Luna.
But what exactly was this coup?
The fraudulent scheme was explained by the Canadian newspaper Toronto Star, which revealed that Uma Thurman’s financial adviser had been arrested for bank fraud and money laundering.
The site explained that the man was arrested and then sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for being involved in a scheme involving bad advice to his investors, leading to the fraudulent crimes cited above.
At the time Kenneth Starr was arrested, he was still working for Uma Thurman, among other high profile clients.
This led the artist to decide to take legal action against him, addressing, among other things, the damage caused by the investments she made in the company Global Options.
One of Thurman’s allegations is that she was not informed of the potential risks of this type of investment.
The text of the lawsuit clarifies that the actress said she was not informed of the risks she was taking by investing an approximate amount of $2 million in the aforementioned technology and security company, in addition to the chain. hotelier Martini Park.
On the other hand, representatives for Kenneth Star denied all the accusations and claimed that the actress knew very well what she was doing when she decided to invest.
“Starr’s legal team disputed Thurman’s lawsuit, insisting that the documents she signed clearly outline the financial risks of doing business,” the Toronto Star reported.
Other Hollywood stars have also fallen for financial scams of this type.
Just like Thurman, other big names have gone through the same situation, however, in different patterns.
Actor Kevin Bacon, for example, lost almost all of his money in some kind of pyramid scheme run by Bernie Madoff, a known con man.
Robert de Niro was also involved with a New York art gallery that illegally sold millionaire paintings.
So far, the process has yet to have its results disclosed.
