Knife attack kills 10 in Canada

Ten people were killed and several injured in stabbings in two remote communities in Canada on Sunday, police said, as they launched a search across three provinces for two suspects.

“We have located 10 deceased individuals at 13 locations in the Cree Nation community of James Smith and Weldon, Saskatchewan,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said at a press conference. .

“Several other victims were injured, 15 of whom were transported to various hospitals,” he added.

According to Rhonda, authorities believe “some of the victims were targeted by the suspects and others were randomly attacked.”

Suspects identified

Earlier, Canadian police released information about the suspects. Damien Sanderson, 1.70 m and 75 kg, and Myles Sanderson, 1.80 m and 110 kg, could have driven a black Nissan Rogue registered SK 119 MPI.

Authorities also advised people in the city of Regina, capital of the province of Saskatchewan, to stay in a safe place and not approach suspicious people.

“Don’t hitchhike. Report suspicious people, emergencies or information to 9-1-1. Do not divulge the location of the police,” he said.

The search for the authors took place while fans were traveling to Regina for a game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, clubs of the Canadian football league.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority told AFP in a statement that it has activated emergency protocols to deal with “a high number of critically ill patients”.
