Playing with their respective partners, Luisa Stefani and Marcelo Melo won another on Friday 2 and advanced to the round of 16 in the doubles group at Roland Garros. The Brazilian, partnered with Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, was the one who sweated the most and had to look for the turnaround to go ahead in Paris.
Stefani and Dabrowski started the match badly, conceded the first set and went after the turnover on the scoreboard. They ended up defeating the Polish Katarzyna Piter and the Hungarian Dalma Galfi by 2 sets to 1, with partials of 4/6, 6/2 and 7/5, in 2h11 of confrontation, for the second round.

Eight-seeded Stefani and Dabrowski will now face Canadian Leylah Fernandez and American Taylor Townsend, who form the No. 10 partnership in the competition.
This is the first time Luisa, an Olympic medalist at the Tokyo Games, has competed in a women’s doubles since undergoing knee surgery in 2021. She could have returned to the Australian Open in January, but her partner of the moment ended up giving the tournament last minute.

In Paris, Luisa also plays in the mixed group, alongside Rafael Matos. Together they were champions in Melbourne earlier this year.
Marcelo Melo also advances
After earning her 600th doubles win, Melo kept up the pace and won another on Friday. Minas Gerais and Australian John Peers reached the round of 16 beating Monaco’s Hugo Nys and Poland’s Jan Zielinski – seeded number 7 – by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 7/6 (7/5) and 6/4, in 1h44.
In the search for a place in the quarter-finals, Melo and Peers will now face Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Argentinian Horacio Zeballos, who form the number 10 duo of the tournament.
