Luiz Altamir wins bronze at Pro Win Series of Swimming in Fort Lauderdale

Brazilian swimmer Luiz Altamir won the bronze medal on Friday (3) at the Pro Win Series in Fort Lauderdale (USA).

Altamir clocked 1:47.88 in the 200m freestyle to finish with bronze. He was even ahead until the 150m, when he was passed by the winner, the Briton Matthew Richards (1:47.04) and the second, the American Kierin Smith (1:47.36).

The Brazilian shared the podium with American Shaine Casas, who set the same time as Altamir.

It was Altamir’s third final in this Pro Win Series stage. He had previously competed in the 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly finals.

Ledecky loses for the first time in nine years

Friday also marked the first defeat of American Katie Ledecky in competitions disputed at the national level.

Ledecky was beaten in the Pro Swim Series 200m freestyle final by 16-year-old Canadian Summer McIntosh. McIntosh won with a time of 1:54.13, surpassing his existing junior record.

Holder of 7 Olympic gold medals between 2012 and 2020, Ledecky has not lost in competition in the United States in the 200m events or more since January 2014, when she was passed by American Allison Schmidt. .
