This Tuesday (24), Brazil returned to participate in the CELAC summit (Community of United States of Latin America and the Caribbean) after the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) removed the country from the summit.
In the opinion of the columnist of UOL Kennedy Alencarthe current president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), put Brazil back in the world.
Brazil’s return to Celac means the correction of the mistake made by Bolsonaro, who removed Brazil from Celac in January 2020 because Celac has the presence of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua. This puts an end to this isolation of Brazil in the world and especially in Latin America.”
Kennedy Alencar
Celac is in its seventh edition and was inaugurated in 2011, in Chile, to serve as a forum for Latin American and Caribbean discussion independent of the influence of the United States and Canada. For Kennedy, this return helps Brazil in the discussion of agreements with countries on other continents and with the United States.
“Brazil’s return to CELAC allows Brazil to once again become a leader in Latin America and the Caribbean, which Bolsonaro renounced. (…) Brazil is emerging from isolation and gaining an important platform for integrate Latin America and it is important for the interests that Brazil has to discuss with the European Union, with the United States and with China itself.”
Relations with Argentina. During the News analysis, Kennedy also pointed out that the bilateral meeting between Lula and the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandéz, resumes the relationship with Argentina that had been left aside under the Bolsonaro government. There is talk of the creation of a new currency for bilateral trade and also of the possibility of Brazil financing work in Argentina.
Payment system. Kennedy also said there was talk of a system of financial payments in which Argentina would guarantee payments to Brazil. “If the Bank of Brazil finances an export from Argentina to Brazil, Argentina has this fund to guarantee the payment of the contract. If the BNDES finances, there are real guarantees to support this contract so that it there is no fault”.
Bolsonaro’s corporate card data must be investigated responsibly, reporter says
When participating in News analysis Journalist Katia Brembatti, editor-in-chief of Estadão Verify, criticized Bolsonaro for giving a speech that he did not use the presidency’s company card, when in fact, invoices obtained through a Request for information from the data agency Sejam Sabendo, which specializes in LAI (Access to Information Law), show that it has been widely used.
Brembetti explained that the corporate card is for emergency expenses and can also be used when traveling, and said the rules for use should be clearer.
Some suspect the former president also used the card to promote election campaign acts, which is illegal, but the reporter urged caution in the accusations. Investigate, but be responsible because you can’t leave things that aren’t true,” he said.
