President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has already signed the first acts of his government. The list includes an order authorizing ministers to withdraw Petrobras, Correios and Empresa Brasileira de Comunicação (EBC) from the privatization process, initiated by ministers in Jair Bolsonaro’s government.
The President’s Transition Team had previously recommended canceling the privatization processes in 2024. The team’s final report also includes an indication to stop the privatization of Nuclebrás Equipamentos Pesados (Nuclep), the Company Brazilian Petroleum and Natural Gas Administration (PPSA) and the National Supply Company (Conab). Today’s announcement, however, does not name these other public companies. The decree must be published in an additional edition of the Official Journal (DOU).
Planalto Palace also announced the issuance of a provisional measure that guarantees the payment of R$600 to beneficiaries of the income transfer program, now called Auxílio Brasil and which will revert to Bolsa Família.
Another act signed is an interim measure that extends the fuel tax exemption. According to the new Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, who spoke earlier to Broadcast, the real-time information system of Grupo Estado, the exemption, which would end yesterday, December 31, will be extended for another 60 days. .
