Rap trio Migos cancel concert at Rock in Rio amid split rumors

The rap group Migos will no longer perform at the next Rock in Rio. The festival announced this Thursday afternoon (25) the cancellation of the show, which would take place on September 4, as well as the casting of the group Jota Quest as a replacement.

The announcement came amid split rumors for the trio of rappers from Atlanta, USA, one of the main people responsible for popularizing trap around the world in recent years. According to Rock in Rio, the group will not be able to come to Brazil “for reasons beyond the control of the festival”.

Migos would sing on the Mundo stage, the festival’s main stage, and with the cancellation the lineup has also undergone some changes. The singer Iza, who would be the first to sing on this stage on the 4th, will now be the second, and Jota Quest will open the program in space with the show “De Volta ao Novo”, a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the band Minas Gerais. .

Besides Iza and Jota Quest, American singer Demi Lovato and Canadian singer Justin Bieber will also perform on the Mundo stage that day. The first Sunday of Rock in Rio—the first day that tickets are sold out—always features concerts by Matuê, Luísa Sonza with Marina Sena, Emicida and Gilberto Gil as a family, the latter on the Sunset stage.

The departure of Migos, the group formed by rappers Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, comes as the group splits. Indeed, Quavo and Takeoff said in an interview with YouTube’s Rap Radar channel that they were working as a duo, without Offset’s involvement — who, in turn, unfollowed his castmates on Instagram.

The cancellation of last-minute rap concerts at Rock in Rio is also nothing new for the festival. In 2019, rapper Cardi B – Offset’s wife – also canceled her performance at the event at the last minute, as did Jay-Z in 2011.

Rock in Rio takes place on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 in Rio de Janeiro.
