A victory this Sunday and the title of the world final of Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Nelsinho Piquet dominated the decisive race of the event with the Italian sports cars after starting on pole at the difficult Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, known as the “Portuguese roller coaster”.

The driver finished the second race in the #130 Ansa Motorsport 1s226 ahead of the duo formed by the Canadian Kyle Marcelli and the Costa Rican Danny Formal, who were racing in the #101 of Wayne Taylor Racing.

As a result, Piquet won his second title at world level, this time in a championship contested with equal cars, further valuing the achievement.

On Friday, the first Formula E world champion finished the North American championship in sixth place, with 76 points and two victories, even without competing in two stages. On Saturday, he finished second in the first race of the World Final, just 2s823 behind the winners, the duo formed by Italian Loris Spinelli and Dutchman Max Weering, who drove in the #61 Bonaldi Motorsport.

This Sunday, Piquet started on pole and once again jumped from the start. He held his position at turn 1 and opened nearly two seconds at the end of lap two. When the pit stop window opened, the Brazilian was already more than five seconds ahead of second in the race and came back from the pits ninth, with 24 minutes still to play in the Algarve.

The peloton reorganized, Nelsinho regained the lead with a comfortable advantage for second place. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Piquet maintained a two-second lead in a clean race, with no warnings or penalties for the #130 prepared by ANSA Motorsport.

Costa Rican Danny Formal even tried to pressure the Brazilian at the end of the race, but the Brazilian defended his victory wisely, winning not only the race but also the Grand Final of the Super Trofeo. It was Piquet’s second victory in the Algarve with the #130 Lamborghini. He was on the podium in all four races over the weekend, both the North American version and the finals.

“I still can’t believe this result, Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Champion,” said Nelsinho. “Thanks to the people at ANSA Motorsport who convinced me to come here at the last minute. We leave here with lots of trophies, it hasn’t sunk yet, I digest the result! Really happy with this result. “
