The volleyball team The Netherlands I have one good win in regards to Cuba this Thursday (8) and recovered from the defeat suffered, during the team’s debut, by Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023. Playing in the Canadian capital, ottawathe Dutch did 3 to 0 in the game and scored their first points in the standings, while the Cubans are still winless.
Despite the 3-0 score indicating a clean win for the Netherlands, the game didn’t quite go that way. In the first set, the teams played a tightly contested game, alternating in front of the scoreboard, which was only decided at 28-26, with the Dutch opener 1-0 in the game.
The second set followed a similar pattern to what was seen in the first leg, with both teams alternating good times and falling streaks. The Netherlands were again superior in the deciding points of the set and took one more, 25-23 and 2-0 on the scoreboard.
With the confidence of two sets in their favor the Dutch came back safely in the third part to force the Cuban error and the strategy worked, soon the team opened up a good advantage on the scoreboard and managed until at the last point, closing the set in 25 -18 and the match in 3 sets to 0. The game’s top scorer was opponent Nimir Abdel-Aziz of the Netherlands with 22 points, all offensive.
For Cuba, the top scorer was Jaime Herrera, with 12 points. It should be mentioned that the Volleyball Nations League is a relegated competition, and Cuba’s start losing to two direct opponents could complicate the team’s intentions to stay in the top flight for next season.
The teams return to the pitch tomorrow, the 9th, with the Netherlands taking on Germany at noon while Cuba takes on Italy at 5:30 p.m. The matches will be broadcast on Sportv.
Also today in Ottawa, we will have the match between Italy and the United States and the second match of the Brazil team, against Argentina, at 9 p.m., also broadcast by Sportv.
