The Pakistani has been identified as Shahzada Dawood. His son is called Suleman. Their ages were not given.

“We greatly appreciate the concern shown by our colleagues and friends and ask everyone to pray for their safety,” the family statement read.

Dawood is vice chairman of one of Pakistan’s largest conglomerates, Engro Corporation, which invests in fertilizers, vehicle manufacturing, energy and technology. According to the businessman’s family, he and his son planned the trip to visit the remains of the Titanic.

A submarine that takes tourists to watch the Titanic disappear into the Atlantic

In all, five passengers are on board the submarine, according to American authorities. The names of two other crew members have been released by the media. Are they:

  • Hamish Harding, billionaire chairman of Action Aviation. He posted on a social network that he would be on board the submarine. One of his stepsons also confirmed that he was missing.
  • Paul-Henri Nargeolet, former commander of the French Navy, considered the greatest expert on the sinking of the Titanic. The information was revealed by the newspaper “The Guardian”.

The missing tourist submarine belongs to the company OceanGate, which carries out expeditions to the wreckage of the Titanic, which sank in 1912. The remains of the ship lie about 600 km off the coast of Canada.

The United States and Canadian Coast Guards conduct search and rescue operations. The Canadians said they had sent a military plane and a ship to help.

The journey takes eight days. To descend to the wreck site, which is 3,800 meters deep in the Atlantic Ocean, the submersible takes about 2.5 hours.
