Pará firefighters participate in humanitarian action in Canada

The Brazilian delegation is expected to work for a month to fight forest fires in the most affected regions of Canada

The Military Brigade of Firefighters of Pará (CBMPA) sent two members of the corporation to compose the humanitarian mission of support and firefighting in Canada. Mobilized by the National Public Security Force (FNSP), the deputy commander of the operation, Lieutenant-Colonel QOBM Wagner Alipio Espírito Santo da Silva and Sergeant of the 3rd QBM Heryewerton Rêgo Paula, will be the representatives of the CBMPA in the mission international.

The operation, coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, includes 104 forest firefighting specialists. The Brazilian delegation is expected to work in the most affected forests in Canada for a period of one month.

Severe heat waves are responsible for the fire season in Canadian states. According to experts, this year has already recorded the worst wildfire scenario in the country’s history.

“The Brazilian government, once again, will support a friendly nation that is going through a crisis situation caused by severe forest fires. This time the country to support is Canada. I am sure that our team will contribute a lot with its experience and skills in the mission, enriching the operation,” said QOBM Lt. Col. Wagner Alipio Espírito Santo da Silva.

Besides the CBMPA, the firefighters of the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Gioás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Tocantins and the Federal District.

The working group will also be made up of the following bodies: the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBIO), both of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA); National Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR); and the National Public Security Force (FNSP), of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP). The Ministries of Defense, Transport and Finance cooperate in the organization of the mission, as well as the National Council of Military Firefighters of Brazil (LIGABOM) and other federal and state institutions.
