Brazil are in Group A, alongside Argentina, Uruguay and Peru. In the other group are Colombia, Paraguay, Chile and Brasil Desenvolvimento (Brazil’s B team).

The challenge system is everyone against everyone within their respective groups. After the end of the first phase, the first two of each key will advance to the semi-finals, which will define the finalists of the tournament. The other teams will play, according to their placements, defining the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places (see more in the table below).

The official opening takes place in the afternoon of this Monday 13, from 2.30 p.m. The competition is open to the public, with free entry, and broadcast on YouTube of the Brazilian Wheelchair Rugby Association (ABRC).

Swimming World Series in Italy
The Brazilian Paralympic swimming team was in the direction of the overall medal table of the World Series stage in Lignano, Italy, after winning two more gold medals this Sunday 12. With that, the country ended its participation with 13 medals, nine gold and four silver. Also this week, from the 16th, 20 swimmers from across the country will swim in the stop in Sheffield, England.

Marrakech Athletics Grand Prix
Beth Gomes, from São Paulo, class F53 (for wheelchair athletes), broke a world record on Saturday that had stood for nearly 30 years, 11, performing a shot put at 6.51m during the Grand Prix d’athlétisme de Marrakech, Morocco. The previous mark, 5.88m, was from New Zealander Cristeen Smith, registered in 1994, in Germany.

On the last day of competitions, the Brazilian athletics team won five more medals (two gold, two silver and one bronze) and ended its participation with 15 podiums, in sixth place in the table. medals overall – the country participated with only eight athletes.

Spanish Paralympic Table Tennis Open
O Spanish Paralympic Table Tennis Opendisputed in Platja D’Aro, between March 9 and 11, had ten Brazilian podiums. There were three gold medals, two silver and five bronze.

On the last day of competition, the 11th, in mixed doubles, Bruna Alexandre and Paulo Henrique Fonseca won gold in the 17-20 category. Israel Stroh and Paulo Salmin took silver in class 14. Paulo Henrique Fonseca also returned to the podium after taking bronze alongside Belgian Ben Despineux in class 14.

Joyce Oliveira is another Brazilian athlete to win bronze on Saturday. She took third place twice. In both cases, with compatriots: Thais Severo, in the class 5 matches and with Fábio Silva in the class 7-10 dispute. Marliane Santos, who had partner Caroline Odaia Tabib of Israel, also took third place in Class 5.

Brazil won other individual medals: Bruna Alexandre and Israel Stroh (gold), Thais Severo (silver) and Joyce Oliveira (bronze).

Gold at the Americas Paralympic Triathlon Championships
Jéssica Messali of São Paulo won the gold medal at the Americas Paralympic Triathlon Championship, this Sunday 12, in Sarasota, USA. In the women’s PTWC event, the Brazilian clocked 1h00min05s and edged out Canadian Leanne Taylor (1h03min05) and Mexican Brenda Alvarez (1h05min16s), silver and bronze respectively.

The dispute included 425m of swimming, 18.3km of handbike (an adapted bicycle) course and 5km of wheelchair racing.

“Champion of the Americas 2023. We continue to stay focused, because the journey has only just begun. Gratitude to my sponsors, my friends, my technical team and my family”, celebrated the champion, born in Jaboticabal, in the interior of Sao Paulo.

In addition to Jessica’s title, Brazil won another gold medal in the competition. In a World Cup test event in Pontevedra, Spain, the Brazilian mixed team took the top step of the multiclass relay podium. In addition to Jessica, the team was formed by triathletes Ronan Cordeiro (PTS5 class), Letícia Freitas (PTVI class) and Jorge Fonseca (PTS4 class).

1st National Phase of the Lotteries Circuit Shooting box
The 1st national phase of the Loterias Caixa sports shooting circuit is taking place this weekend, March 18 and 19, in Rio de Janeiro. A total of 51 athletes registered for rifle and pistol competitions at the Naval School, located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, and for clay pigeon (trap) shooting, at the Military Shooting Center, in Deodoro, in the West Zone.

This is the modality’s first competition in 2024. The Loterias Caixa circuit replaces the Paralympic Loterias Caixa meeting, contested in two stages last year, also in Rio de Janeiro.
