Guadalajara (Mexico) – For the second year in a row, the Australian Storm Hunter will participate in the WTA 1000 doubles final in Guadalajara. Champion last year, alongside Brazilian Luísa Stefani, Hunter will have the opportunity to win a second title, this time with Belgian Elise Mertens.
Seeded in Guadalajara, Hunter and Mertens beat the North Americans Caroline Dolehide (also singles finalist) and Asia Muhammad by 7/5 and 6/3.
Hunter and Mertens have just one title together, at the WTA 1000 in Rome in May. They were also Wimbledon finalists. The 29-year-old left-hander has six WTA doubles titles. Mertens, 27, has 17 achievements on the circuit.
The opponents in the final this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. will be Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealander Erin Routliffe, 3 seeds and recent US Open champions, who beat Italian Jasmine Paolini and Egyptian Mayar Sherif by 6/2 and 7/6 (7-4).
Gabriela Dabrowski, 31, has 14 titles on the WTA doubles circuit. Erin Routliffe, 28, has won four tournaments on the circuit. The partnership was formed in the build-up to the US Open and played only in Montreal, Cincinnati and Cleveland before the New York Grand Slam.
