Putin cancels usual year-end press conference

Some Russian soldiers will be unhappy with high military ranks and Putin

Reuters writes that some Russian officers fighting in Ukraine are unhappy with senior military officials, but also with Vladimir Putin, with the way the war is going. The information is attributed to Igor Girkin, former head of the Federal Security Service (FSB) who collaborated in Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Girkin revealed there was discontent, in a 90-minute video where he analyzes the war, after a visit to one of the conflict sites. “The head of the fish is completely rotten,” he said, advocating military reform and the hiring of new leaders.

Girkin said he spoke with mid-level servicemen who openly expressed their displeasure with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Vladimir Putin. “It’s not just me. People aren’t blind or deaf at all,” and the military “don’t even hide their opinions, which are not fully complementary to the President or the Minister of Defense🇧🇷

According to an American estimate, made on November 9, each side saw more than 100,000 soldiers killed or wounded.
