Death of Elizabeth II
Communication from Buckingham Palace had previously signaled that doctors were concerned about the Queen’s health. Close family members made emergency trips to the country to say goodbye.
“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow,” the palace said in a statement posted on the royal family’s website.
On the death certificate, the palace determined the cause of death as “advanced age.” In the order of succession, the one who will assume the throne is Prince Charles.
