the judokas Raphael Buzacarini It is Leonard Goncalves fought this Friday (12) in the men’s under 100kg category at the World Judo Championship in Doha, were eliminated in the early stages and Brazil remain without a medal in the tournament.
Buzacarini won the first fight by WO after Fijian judoka Tevita Takayawa failed the weigh-in and therefore was unable to compete. In the second phase, the Qatari Reda Nafwa did not appear on the mat and thus, Rafael went straight to the round of 16.
In his first real fight, he faced Canadian Kyle Reyes. The fight was well contested, both received the judges’ warning, with the Brazilian suspended with two and the Canadian with one. At the start of the golden score, Reyes applied an ippon and eliminated Rafael.
Leo only had one fight and he was doing well in the fight. He hung Czech Lukas Krpalek with two penalties and needed him to take one more to be dropped from the fight. However, he found himself pinned down in injury time and ended up being defeated.
Brazil will have three judokas in combat this Saturday: João Cesarino and Rafael “Baby” Silva (+100kg) and Beatriz Souza (+78kg). They are the country’s last individual medal hopefuls.
Inbal Lanir is the new -78 kg world champion
Israeli Inbal Lanir became world champion in the -78kg category, in which Mayra Aguiar is triple world champion, after beating France’s Audrey Tcheumeo by an ippon after two and a half minutes of combat. The bronzes went to Italian Alice Bellandi and Dutchman Guusje Steenhuis.
In the men’s -100kg, Russian Arman Adamian, who competed as a neutral, beat Krpalek in the final, after the Czech took three shidos and was disqualified. Bronzes went to Azerbaijani Zelym Kotsoiev and Israeli Peter Paltchik, who won after Canadian Shady Elnahas failed to show up for the fight.
