Canadian Milos Raonic, a former top three player and currently ranked 186th in the world, broke the record for most aces in a best-of-three-set match on Monday at the Queen’s ATP 500 tournament in London, England.

Raonic beat Britain’s Cameron Norrie, ranked 39th, 2 sets to 1 with scores of 6/7 (8/6) 6/3 7/6 (11/9). The Canadian hit 47 aces, surpassing the previous record of 45 held by Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Germany, in 2015.

Milos faces either Japan’s Taro Daniel or fourth seed American Taylor Fritz in the round of 16.

In his debut of the grass-court season, Russian Daniil Medvedev, ranked fifth in the world, qualified for the round of 16 of the ATP 500 in Halle, Germany, an event with a prize pool of 2.4 million euros.

The Russian beat Portugal’s Nuno Borges, ranked 51st, 2 sets to 0 with partials of 7/6 (7/4) 6/4 after 1h31min. He saved a set point at 5/6 and served in the first set shortly after committing a double fault.

Borges lost his eighth match in eight matches against the top 10 in his career. The Portuguese only took advantage of one of the six break points he had throughout the match.

Medvedev wins his 22nd in 23 matches against players outside the top 20 this season.

He will face China’s Zhizhen Zhang in the round of 16.
