Raonic criticizes refereeing after controversial point

(Toronto, Canada) – Despite the great victory on his debut at the Masters 1000 in Toronto, beat North American Frances Tiafoe in a comebackCanadian Milos Raonic left the field dissatisfied with the referee’s performance during the controversial set point at the end of the first half and spared no criticism of the chair judge and supervisor.

Tiafoe even hit the net during the points dispute and before the ball bounced twice in Raonic’s court. But while the North American touched part of the net beyond the singles post, referee Fergus Murphy validated the point and thus ended the first set. “This section of the network does not count as touching,” he explained.

“I don’t think they were completely honest, but that’s how it is. I think they handled it poorly. Whatever the rule, I just don’t think the situation was handled well,” complained the local tennis player after the victory with partials of 6/7 (12-14), 7/6 (7- 4) and 6/3 in a match lasting 2h44.

“I’m not necessarily the best player at engaging the crowd, I just keep my head down and do my thing. I think that made everyone angry, everyone got even more excited for the match. It gave me an extra boost and more strength to move forward,” added Raonic, who will now face Japanese Taro Daniel.

After spending almost two years without playing due to a series of injuries, the Canadian highlighted his will. “What I’ve always said is it doesn’t matter how much you do the right things. You never know when things will click and fall into place for you. For me, it’s incredibly special to be here,” Raonic said.

“If this match were different, I think it would still be a positive springboard for the progress I am making,” added the Canadian, who in recent years has suffered injuries to his Achilles tendon, back, elbow, on the buttocks, on the thigh, on the right. ankle, right calf and right knee.
