Rayssa Leal wins the SLS stage
The Brazilian sportswoman showed consistent performances and showed that she should be one of the main skaters in the quest for the title. Rayssa Leal scored 31.4 while Japan’s Momiji Nishyia secured second place, while Dutchman Roos Zwetsloot completed the podium.
It should be mentioned that Rayssa Leal is the current champion, as in 2022 she was considered perfect, guaranteeing trophies at all rounds and even winning the title dispute at the Super Crown in Rio de Janeiro. In turn, in February 2023, she also became champion of the World Skate Street Championship, which was held in the United Arab Emirates, this tournament is one of the possibilities of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
Changes in the competition
In the Chicago edition, the SLS had a different format, since in the women’s category, six athletes had the opportunity to compete in the final. In previous editions, eight managed to qualify without having to go through qualifications.
In turn, there are also changes in the men’s tournament, so far there are 20 competitors competing in four semi-finals, always qualifying with the highest marks. In addition, the best placed among the second places must also face a dispute against the last champion. Thus, who had to defend his title in the stage of Chicago was the Portuguese skater, Gustavo Ribeiro. Brazilian Kelvin Hoefler won the title, Canadian Ryan Decenzo was second and third was for legend Nyjah Houston.
