Reebok at Botafogo: Understanding the brand’s CEO relationship with John Textor

O Botafogo announced on Friday that the Reebok will be the new sports equipment supplier club for the next three years. The deal was spearheaded directly by John Textor, who does business with Jamie Selter, CEO of Authentic Brands Group, owner of the North American brand.

Curiously, Selter is an indirect shareholder of Botafogo. Indeed, the Canadian businessman is Textor’s partner at Eagle Football Holdings, a holding company which owns 90% of SAF d’Alvinegro. The company also holds a minority stake in Crystal Palace (ING), as well as 80% in Molenbeek (BEL) and a share in Lyon (FRA).

– My partner Jamie Salter, who also owns part of Eagle Football and is involved with me in other clubs, is CEO of Authentic Brands Group, which owns several brands and has just bought Reebok. I want to talk to Jamie about his plans. Reebok is a great company, which is under the leadership of a great friend and I think we have great opportunities – Textor said earlier this year.

Through Authentic Brands Group (ABG), Jamie Salter bought Reebok from Adidas in August last year for $2.5 billion. The partnership with Botafogo marks the brand’s return to football.

The release of the uniforms is scheduled for Brasileirão 2023. Reebok will dress the men’s, women’s and youth teams of Botafogo, in addition to controlling the return of the club’s physical stores.

Adidas was another brand on the move, but more of a Textor drive to “standardize” all Eagle Football clubs with the same company – Lyon-FRA is sponsored by the German company. Right from the start, Reebok presented the best numbers.
