A delegation from Santa Catarina arrived in Canada on Sunday (25.06) for a week of immersion in the innovation ecosystem of the Toronto region, one of the main technological centers in the world. The trip is organized by Santa Catarina Technology Association (ACATE)for the Sebrae/SC and by the Canadian Consulate, with the support of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC). A total of about 50 Brazilians will participate in the mission, including the Secretary for International Coordination of the State Government, Julien Froehnerand Blumenau’s economic development secretary, Valdecir Mengarda.
For the vice-president of internationalization of ACATE, Henry Bilbao, the mission will be important in further strengthening ties between Santa Catarina and Canada. Since 2022 ACATE has had an office in the city of Waterloo, on the outskirts of Toronto, and an agreement with the local accelerator (The Waterloo Accelerator Center), considered one of the top five in the world for six consecutive years.
“We will have a very busy schedule from Monday to Friday, with visits from important Canadian companies and authorities. In addition, the entourage will go for two days in the Collision, which is one of the biggest technology events in the world. This year, more than 40,000 people are expected,” says Bilbao, who has lived in Canada for over a year.
The entourage will number about 50 people. Most are from Santa Catarina, with the presence of Gauchos from the Instituto Caldeira. During the five-day trip, conferences are also planned with entrepreneurs and other players in the Canadian innovation ecosystem. The return to Brazil is scheduled for early July.
