The Canadian has postponed 12 performances of a tour that began at the end of June
Canadian singer Shawn Mendes announced on Friday evening (8) that he would be taking a three-week break from the ‘Wonder The Tour’ concert schedule, which kicked off at the end of June. According to a post posted by the artist on social media, the break will take place for the artist to prioritize mental health.
In the post, the Canadian spoke about the busy schedule of shows since he was 15 and also commented on the difficulty he faced not being close to his friends and family. “I’ve been on tour since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been hard being on the road away from my friends and family,” he said.
The artist also commented on how the pressure has hampered performances in his career. “After a few years without a road I felt ready to dive back in but this decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure got to me and I reached a breaking point. After talking to my team and to my health care providers, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my sanity first.
The singer gained popularity in 2013 by posting cover songs on the video-sharing app Vine. The following year, he caught the eye of art director Andrew Gertler and Island Records talent scout Ziggy Chareton, which led to him signing a contract with the label. Since the beginning of his career, the musician has released four studio albums, performed three world tours as a main artist and received several awards.
