Chennai (India) – After win your first two matches in the doubles draw of the WTA 250 in Chennai, Luísa Stefani returns to the court this Saturday for the dispute of the semi-finals of the tournament. Stefani and Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski are the main seeds and will play at 8:30 am (GMT) against Thailand’s Peangtarn Plipuech and Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima.

Winner of three doubles tournaments on the WTA circuit, Luísa Stefani is trying to reach her 12th career final and her fifth alongside Dabrowski. Playing together, they were WTA 1000 champions last year in Toronto and took second place in Ostrava again in 2020, in addition to San Jose and Cincinnati last season.

In Chennai, Luísa Stefani is playing her first tournament since the serious knee injury she suffered in the semi-finals of the US Open last year. The former world number 9 went a year without playing and currently only appears at 718th in the rankings, with 55 points. The campaign to the semi-finals earns 110 points for the 25-year-old from São Paulo, who is back in the top 500. She could end the tournament in around 250th place if she wins. Next week, Stefani will play in Tokyo, alongside Japan’s Ena Shibahara.

If they reach the final, it is certain that the decision will be against Russian Anna Blinkova and Georgian Natela Dzalamidze. They won the semi-final against Canadian Eugénie Bouchard and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer by 6/3 and 1/1, when the opponents abandoned the contest on Friday.
