On social media, Canadian showed how the rehabilitation process was after surgeries and injuries
Spear Stroll took to social media on Monday to share images of his recovery from the accident suffered while practicing cycling, a few days before the pre-season of the Formula 1 in Bahrain.
In the video released by the pilot of the Aston Martin, you can see footage of the broken wrists as well as the toe, which also ended up being fractured. In addition, there are also the records of the Canadian in the post-operative process and all the rehabilitation carried out, from the beginning, to recover movement.
In the post, Stroll still resolves one of the main doubts about what happened: the date. There was some doubt as to the exact day of the event, as Aston only revealed what happened on February 20. In the caption, he reveals that it all happened two days before his revelation, on 02/18.
Even with a virtually record-breaking recovery, Lance missed pre-season in Bahrain making way for the Brazilian Felipe Drugovitch. The presence of the Canadian at the start of the calendar was a doubt given the uncertainty of the degree of fractures. However, he received permission from the doctors of the FIA and took part in the inaugural weekend of 2023, earning a sixth-place finish for Aston Martin despite severe pain.
Stroll’s presence in the cockpit last Sunday he “contradicted” all expectations, even those responsible for the recovery of the pilot, who only saw his return to the tracks after the third race of the year, in Australia.
“I want to take a moment today to reflect on the past few weeks and share my story with you. On Saturday February 18, I had a cycling accident while training in Spain. Scans showed that I had a fracture and dislocation in the right wrist, a fracture in the left wrist, a partial fracture in the left hand and finally another fracture in the big toe of the right foot.
With the start of the season fast approaching, the timing couldn’t have been worse. My medical team initially believed that not only would I fail the tests but also the first races. 48 hours after my accident / 12 days before the first race, Dr. Javier Mir successfully operated on my right wrist.
After the surgery, Dr. Mir told me that I would come back to Jeddah if I worked hard and hopefully he was optimistic that I could race in Bahrain – but it was far. To this day, I am confident that the urgency that Dr. Mir helped me to take me to Bahrain.
The work has not been done. Unfortunately, Dr. Mir explained that my left hand/wrist and toe fractures were not suitable for fixation and that I would have to rely on a more conservative approach to heal my other injuries.
My medical team made sure we did anything that showed signs of bone healing. It became my 24/7 job, trying to pull together whatever could help, even if it was just 0.5%. Initially, progress was slow – he needed a lot of help, even with daily household chores.
But every day it got better and it became possible that we have the chance to race in Bahrain. My medical team developed a program that would help me restore mobility and strength to my wrists.
Rehabilitation took hard work and perseverance – but with an amazing medical team and my supportive friends and family – I was able to overcome the pain and get back on track in Bahrain with my team and others runners.
And we did!!!
I’m grateful to everyone who supported me and sent me kind messages!”
