Councilman Rodrigo Rabuske has filed a bill with the Santa Cruz do Sul City Council that provides for the inclusion of content related to financial education in municipal schools. The article is co-authored by Councilor Nicole Weber and Councilor Serginho Moraes.

According to the proposal, the activities and contents related to financial education will be part of the diversified base of the school curriculum, must be considered as a transversal theme, be present in the different disciplines of the school context and be developed in an interdisciplinary way .

“Topics related to financial education can be addressed, such as notions of monetary, fiscal and capital economics; notions of financial planning; and accounting principles, including debit and credit,” the draft states.

Raubuske points out that there is little instruction on the subject of financial education on the part of the Brazilian population. “Throughout last year, Brazil reached a record 77.7% of families ending the month with some debt, the highest number recorded in the past 12 years, according to the National Confederation of Commerce of goods, services and tourism (CNC). This number is worrying and highlights the need for the theme for young people, in order to expand their capacity for conscious choice, especially those who are in a situation of vulnerability”, observes he.
