Governor Rafael Fonteles participated this Monday (12), in Berlin, Germany, in the II Piauí – Europe Green Hydrogen Summit. Sponsored by the state government, the event aimed to present the potential of Piauí in the field of renewable energies to authorities, investors and European institutions, in order to attract investments for the production of green hydrogen.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Berlin, Franziska Giffey; the Deputy Director General of Bilateral Cooperation on Climate Action and Energy Transition of the International Energy Agency (BMWK), Ursula Borak, who represented the German government; and the Minister Counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in Germany, Luiz Eduardo Gonçalves, who represented Ambassador Roberto Jaguaribe, among other authorities.

To more than 100 managers and investors interested in the subject, the governor stressed that the main objective is to make Piauí one of the main producers of green hydrogen in the world. For this, he presented the competitive advantages that the State presents and which facilitate the production of what is considered to be the fuel of the future. “We produce four times the energy we consume. Our potential, on the other hand, is ten times greater than what is produced. We have the largest solar park – in São Gonçalo do Gurguéia – and the largest wind farm – in Lagoa do Barro and Queimada Nova – in Latin America,” the governor said.

He also mentioned the Piauí Export Processing Zone (ZPE), which facilitates exports and attracts investors, and the fact that Piauí is washed by the Parnaíba River, “the largest river truly in the northeast”. The Governor confirmed that the H2V Piauí, the Green Hydrogen Valley of Piauí, is in the study and planning phase with the aim of providing investment, sustainability and the creation of jobs and income in Piaui.

“It was an extremely productive meeting, which indicates very promising investment prospects for Piauí, with the generation of wealth for our State, more business opportunities and jobs and income for our people!”, has said Rafael Fonteles through his social networks.

Councilor Luiz Eduardo Gonçalves highlighted the importance of the event. “Piauí presented numerous investment opportunities to the German public present here, especially in the field of energy transition. I am sure that the state is becoming one of the main centers of green hydrogen production in Brazil and in the world,” he said.

Entrepreneurs Pedro Vaquer, from Solatio Energia, and Luciano Guido, from Solar Outdoor Media, who have already signed commitments with the State, presented their plans to set up industrial plants for the production of green hydrogen in Piauí.

Also participating in the event was Professor Jesse Van Griensven Thé, from the University of Waterloo (Canada), who technically analyzed the competitive differentials of Piauí; and Professor Patrick Cnubben, a specialist in energy transition, who is contributing to the construction of the hydrogen valley in Piauí. Accompanying the Governor to the II Piauí – Europe Summit were the Secretary of Government, Marcelo Noletto; the president of Investe Piauí, Victor Hugo Almeida; and the first lady, Isabel Fonteles.

PORT OF LUÍS CORREIA — Before the II Piauí – Europe Summit, the Governor and his entourage met with representatives of the largest German freight transport company, Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. kg. The group operates approximately 700 owned and chartered vessels with a total deadweight of 40 million tonnes.

The company intends to operate in Piauí with the transport of iron ore and soy through the port of Luís Correia. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) must be signed between the parties at a future meeting, this time in Brazil, to establish this great partnership for the development of Piauí.
