The 12th edition of the Artes Vertentes Festival begins this Thursday (16), in Tiradentes. The program runs until the 26th. This is considered one of the main events in the country that promotes the meeting of the arts in an integrated manner. This year it has the theme “Imaginary Landscapes”, which guides concerts, exhibitions, shows, discussions, artistic residencies and workshops, among others. The theme chosen this year aims to broaden reflection on art and its dialogues, which is directly manifested in the artists chosen by the curators of the program, which includes music, literature, theater, dance, cinema, visual arts and oral speech. People from all over Brazil and abroad participate in the Artes Vertentes Festival. In addition, the theme wants to talk about the place where the festival takes place: the changes in the landscapes of Tiradentes are perceptible, especially thanks to the real and intangible explorations.

The program begins this Thursday, from 5 p.m., at the Yves Alves Cultural Center, with the musical groups of Ação Cultural Artes Vertentes: Musicalização Artes Vertentes, Pequenos Grandes Violinistas and Coro VivAvoz. Then, at 6 p.m., the “Fallen Angels” exhibition opens with the works of French photographer, journalist and writer Emilienne Malfatto. The exhibition brings together works that address loss, mourning, trauma and absence, focusing on the memory of the Yazidis, a Kurdish religious minority established in a region on the border between Iraq and Syria .

Sobrado Quatro Cantos opens, at 6 p.m., the exhibition “From house to landscape”, in partnership with the UFMG Tiradentes Cultural Campus. These are works signed by Andrea Lanna, Daisy Turrer, Elisa Campos, Fernanda Goulart, Liliza Mendes, Roberto Bethônico and Rodrigo Borges. Then, at 7 p.m., at Largo de Sant’Anna, the dance and music show “Vós que pulsais” takes place, inspired by the short story “O lobisomem de Minas”, by the Swiss writer Blaise Cendrars. The assembly is the result of a process promoted by the festival itself, during the years 2022 and 2023, by Morena Nascimento, Sofia Leandro and Bruno Santos. On the first day, at 8:30 p.m., the concert “Do you remember the night? », at Matriz Santo Antônio, unprecedented in the State, bringing together soprano Eliane Coelho and pianist Gustavo Carvalho, who pay tribute to Serguei Rachmaninov. .

Friday (17), the program begins with the screening of the film “Kirikou and the Witch”, by Frenchman Michel Ocelot, in the auditorium of the Yves Alves Cultural Center, at 9 a.m. The film will be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. At 11 a.m., at Sobrado Quatro Cantos, a round table will take place with photographers Walter Firmo and Evandro Teixeira. At 4:30 p.m., writers Ana Martins Marques and Aline Motta launch their books: “From one island to another” and “Water is a time machine”, at Marcas Mineiras.

The Padre Toledo Museum hosts, at 6:30 p.m., the Visions of Yesterday, Memory of Tomorrow program, which combines literature, music and cinema. During the presentation, Sofia Leandro and Bruno Santos play Vinícius Baldaia and Thiago Vila in dialogue with the short film “A Plataforma”, by Chris Marker, and with the poetry of Felipe Franco Munhoz. Shortly after, at 8 p.m., Aline Motta performs a reading-performance with video projection based on her first book, “Water is a time machine”. In the interior garden of the museum, at 9:00 p.m., on the Canudos stage, Kiko Dinucci presents his solo show, in voice and guitar format, with songs from his album “Rastilho” and others that are part of his other projects, such as Metá Metá and Passo e Torto.

On Saturday (18), the festival begins with a reading and a meeting with the writer and filmmaker Rita Carelli, author of “Menina cassava”, a book from her experience in indigenous lands during her childhood. The meeting takes place at the Yves Alves Cultural Center, from 11 a.m. At 3:30 p.m., also at the cultural center, there will be a double screening of the short films “Yaõkwa, imagem e memória”, by Rita and Vicent Carelli and “A Era de Lareokotô”, also by Rita. Then, at 4:30 p.m., at Marcas Mineiras, there is a literary café, with Emilienne Malfatto and Rita Carelli, who launch the books “Que por você se lamento o Tigre” and “Terrapreta”.

At 6:00 p.m., it’s time for music, with the concert “Wait for spring to bloom”, at the São João Evangelista Church, with pieces by John Cage, Sofia Gubaidulina, Leonardo Martinelli and Claude Debussy, performed by Cássia Lima from Minas Gerais (flute), the Canadian Peter Pas (viola) and the Argentinian Soledad Yaya (harp), weaving a dialogue with the poetry of Ana Martins Marques. At the Yves Alves Cultural Center, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a screening of the film “Aguirre, the Wrath of God”, by Werner Herzog. To end the day, at 9 p.m., on Palco Canudos, there is Roger Deff, an important name in hip hop from Minas Gerais.

On Sunday (19) there will be a Literary Café with Laura de Mello e Souza, Walter Firmo and Evandro Teixeira, at Marcas Mineiras, from 10:30 a.m. At noon, the “Postcards from Nowhere” concert takes place at the São João Evangelista Church. It is dedicated to the composers Leonardo Martinelli and Luciano Berio and will feature readings by Ana Martins Marques. At 3 p.m., at Sobrado Quatro Cantos, there will be a table on the theme “Racial democracy in the arts: future landscapes for Brazil”, with Iberê Carvalho and Roger Deff and the mediation of Elidayana Alexandrino. At 5 p.m., at the Yves Alves Cultural Center, there will be a screening of the film “Barcelona or Death”, a documentary by Idrissa Guiro. At 6:00 p.m., at the Nossa Senhora das Mercês Church, the concert “Love songs, songs without words” will take place, dedicated to the composers Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Viktor Ullmann. Monday (20), at 4:30 p.m., there will be Café Literário with Ismar Tirelli Neto, at Marcas Mineiras. And at 7 p.m., at the Nossa Senhora das Mercês Church, the “Legends” concert will take place, dedicated to the works of Robert Schumann, Antonin Dvorak and Ernst von Dohnányi. On Tuesday (21), the film “Sem sol”, by Chris Marker, will be shown at the cultural center and, at 7 p.m., at the Igreja do Rosário, the concert “Paisagens derradeiras”.

On Wednesday (22), Leonardo Martinelli and Felipe Franco Munhoz, at 3:30 p.m., participate in Café Literário, at Marcas Mineiras. At the Chafariz de São José, at 5 p.m., the “Cantos de Caronte” concert takes place, which highlights exactly the creation of Leonardo Martinelli. At 6 p.m., at the Yves Alves Cultural Center, there will be a screening of the film “The Stranger”, by Feo Aladag. At the Nossa Senhora das Mercês church there is the concert “Amores transfigurados”, at 8 p.m.

Thursday (23) begins with music, with the concert “Flowers are us, only flowers…”, at the Evangelist Church of São João, at noon. At 2:00 p.m., guided tour of the “Mergulho das Benedictas” occupation, which takes place in Beco Zé Moura. At 4:30 p.m., at the Yves Alves Cultural Center, there will be a screening of the documentary “Chão”, directed by Camila Freitas, which focuses on the Landless Movement. Bringing together music and audiovisual, there is “Esse esse aqui”, at the Casa Padre Toledo Museum, with the experimental duo from Minas Gerais O Grivo, the artist Niura Ballavinha and the musician Francisco César. On Friday (24), there will be a screening of the classic “God and the Devil in the Land of the Sun”, by Glauber Rocha, from 4:30 p.m., at the Yves Alves Cultural Center. The same day, a concert takes place in Bichinho, a neighboring town to Tiradentes. It will be at the Nossa Senhora da Penha church, from 5 p.m. The Casa Padre Toledo Museum hosts the screening of the film “The Old and the New,” starting at 9 p.m. The soundtrack will be performed live by O Grivo.

Saturday (25), Marcas Mineiras, from 10:30 a.m., welcomes the writer Maria Valéria Rezende, who launches her book “Every word gives samba”. At the São João Evangelista Church, at noon, the concert “Of Peoples and Distant Lands” takes place. At 4:30 p.m., on the Canudos stage, the Artes Vertentes cultural action takes place. At 6 p.m., another concert, “The Afternoon of a Faun in the Southern Landscapes,” celebrates the legacy of composers such as Benjamin Britten, Claude Debussy, Alberto Ginastera, Astor Piazzolla and Radamés Gnatalli.
