The Playoffs – Canada defeats the United States to win the Women’s Ice Hockey World Cup

This Sunday (4), Canada beat the United States 2-1 to win the Women’s Ice Hockey World Cup, played in Denmark. The highlight of the game was Brianne Jenner, who scored both Canadian goals and was voted the best of the game.

The final brought together the two main countries that dominate women’s hockey in the world, so much so that they made the decisions for the 2021 World Cup and this year’s Winter Olympics, both won by Canada . But in the first phase of the tournament, the United States won 5-2 and the expectation was high to overturn the dominance of the northern neighbors.

As expected, the game was tense from the start. The scoring wasn’t opened until the second half, when Jenner, almost without an angle, beat goaltender Nicole Hensley and made it 1-0 for Canada. A minute later, on the power play, Jenner extended the advance and it looked like the Canadians would dominate the decision. But with 21 seconds left in the period, Amanda Kessel found Abby Roque and put USA on the scoreboard, closing the gap to just one goal.

The last 20 minutes were marked by American pressure in search of the equalizer, but the selection failed to overcome Ann-Renée Desbiens, who closed the game with 20 saves, including a sensational sequence in the last minute of the match, securing the 2-1 and the title for Canada. It was the team’s third achievement in the past 12 months, along with the 2021 World Cup and the Olympics.
