Volleyball
The balance between the main forces in world volleyball means that places are only decided in the final rounds of the competition.
The women’s volleyball pre-Olympics reach the final stages with many disputes and places still open for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. Some teams no longer have a chance of qualifying, but the main forces on the planet continue to fight to seal their passport. With two rounds remaining, none of the 24 teams could confirm their place in advance.
Group A – China
Group A is where the argument is more balanced. Five of the eight teams still have a chance of qualifying: Serbia, Netherlands, Dominican Republic, China and Canada. The hosts and Canadians have won three times, while the other teams have won four times. Direct confrontations will define the classifieds.
Group B – Japan
In the situation in which Brazil finds itself, the dispute is more limited. Even though they lost their unbeaten record in the competition against Turkey, the Brazilians can still make the top 2. But for that to happen, we have to beat Japan, who leads the parenthesis. José Roberto Guimarães’ men, however, have the possibility of having their passports stamped for Paris via the FIVB ranking.
Group C – Poland
The only group played on European soil has the WE with five victories. Just behind, on four, come Italy, Poland and Germany, respectively. Thailand, Colombia, South Korea and Slovenia are in line with the table and no longer meet the qualification requirements.
The remaining five places for the Olympic Games will be awarded to the top ranked teams in the International Volleyball Federation rankings. Currently, Brazil is in fourth place, behind Turkey, the United States and Serbia. Obeying a criterion of universality, a team from the African continent, for example, will guarantee a place in Paris even if it did not participate in the Pre-Olympics.
Brazil’s remaining matches:
09/23 (Saturday) – Brazil x Belgium – 4 a.m. – Globo and SporTV 2
09/24 (Sunday) – Brazil x Japan – 7:25 a.m. – SporTV 2
(Matches take place in Brasilia time)
