The right-wing coalition is favored in the legislative elections in Quebec – 03/10/2022

The Quebec legislative polls opened on Monday (3), in this French-speaking Canadian province, where the right-wing coalition came out on top, after debates marked by the question of immigration and Quebec identity.

More than six million voters are expected at the polls to elect the 125 members of the Assembly of Quebec.

According to data published by the independent institute Élections Québec, nearly 25% of voters chose to vote in advance (by mail or at special polling stations), which is a record.

The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), a ragtag right-wing nationalist party led by current Premier François Legault, won nearly 38% of the vote in recent polls. Behind, appears the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), with 17%. It would be the worst outcome for the acronym that ruled Quebec for almost 15 years before 2018.

The other opposition parties would retain their current support, with the exception of the sovereign Parti Québécois (PQ), which gained a few points in the polls.

Voting ends at 8:00 p.m. local time (9:00 p.m. in Brasilia). Results are expected shortly thereafter.
