TikTok is not recommended for civil servants in the Netherlands

The Dutch government said on Tuesday that it does not recommend its employees use TikTok or other apps run by countries with “offensive cyber programs” on their work devices.

According to the Dutch intelligence service (AIVD), there is “a growing risk of espionage” through the use of TikTok or other apps run by countries such as Russia, China, Iran and South Korea. North.

The Dutch government has advised its employees against using these apps, saying it hopes to achieve a “structural solution” making it impossible to use them on its work devices.

“Central government must be able to do its job securely, also via its mobile devices,” said Alexandra van Huffelen, Dutch State Secretary for Digitization.

The government wants all employees’ work phones to be set up so that only previously authorized apps or features can be installed and used.

The Netherlands will therefore follow federal agencies in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, which have already banned TikTok from government devices for data security reasons.
