A Canadian tourist died on Tuesday after falling from Iguazu Falls. The accident happened while the victim was trying to take a selfie from the Argentinian side.
The body was found near the town of Foz do Iguaçu in Paraná after more than 24 hours of searching.
According to the Argentine press, the Canadian was 60 years old and staying in a hotel in Puerto Iguazú. His body was found near the Tancredo Neves Bridge, which connects the cities of Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu.
The victim was found by employees of a company that carries out nautical excursions in the region. They notified the navy.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. on Monday. The Canadian was on the Bosetti Falls footbridge. Witnesses reported that he climbed onto the guardrail to take a selfie, but lost his balance and fell.
Argentinian rescue teams started the search immediately, but work has been hampered by the high flow of water in the falls in recent days. Heavy rains have been occurring in the area since last week.
Last week, the Iguaçu Falls walkway in Paraná was closed for three days.
Last Thursday, the second largest water volume of the falls in history was recorded. On this date, the flow reached 16.5 million liters of water per second, ie 11 times more than the annual average of 1.5 million.
