Trump News – Live: Trump celebrates comeback on Facebook and Instagram as meta decision divides critics

Marjorie Taylor Greene Positioned to Be Trump’s 2024 Vice Presidential Pick

Donald Trump celebrated his comeback on Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday after parent company Meta announced its decision to reinstate the former president’s accounts in the “coming weeks.”

In a statement on Truth Social – where he described himself as the “favorite president” despite not being elected to a second term – Mr Trump said that “a thing like this should never happen again to a sitting president, or anyone else who does not deserve retaliation.”

Trump was banned from Facebook and Instagram for two years after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, announced on Wednesday that it may return to platforms, but there will be new guardrails installed to “prevent recurrence.”

The decision divided opinion, with Representative Adam Schiff condemning Facebook for “caving”.

“Trump incited an insurrection. And tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. He showed no remorse. Without contrition. Giving him back access to a social media platform to spread his lies and grandstanding is dangerous. @facebook gave in, giving it a platform to do more damage,” he tweeted.
