Tsitsipas wins favoritism and goes to the semi-finals

Stockholm, Sweden) – Champion of the tournament in 2018 and seeded 1 of the current edition, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas continues to assert his favoritism and is already in the semi-finals of the tournament. This Friday, he put an end to the party of the house tennis player Mikael Ymer and beat the Swede in two sets, with partials of 7/5 and 6/3, after 1h43 of match.

Although it was defined as straight sets, the match was closer than the scoreline indicated and Tsitsipas stood out by playing the important points better. He took three of the nine break points he had in his favor and saved 10 of the 11 break points he faced. The Greek had fewer winners than Ymer (27-29) and also fewer unforced errors (11-14).

In the semi-finals, Tsitsipas will face Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori, 52nd in the standings, who eliminated North American Frances Tiafoe, third in the competition and world number 17 by a 6/2 double. The confrontation against the 23-year-old Finn is unprecedented on the professional circuit.

On the other side of the table, the Dane Holger Rune definitely shook up the competition. Tormentor of Thiago Monteiro of Ceará in his debut, he secured himself in the semi-finals by beating the Briton Cameron Norrie, second in the standings, with a final score of 6/7 (4-7), 6/3 and 6/ 3, after a 2h06 battle

The opponent of the seventh seed in the next round will be the Australian Alex de Minaur, who had an interesting duel against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, triumphing in straight sets, with partials of 6/2 and 7/6 (7-4) . It will be the first time the 19-year-old Dane will meet the Australian, four years his senior, on the ATP Tour.
