Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Tuesday he spoke with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, about migration, security and development, at a time when the two countries have a dispute over Mexico’s energy policy in the context of the T-MEC.
“We had a cordial conversation with President Joe Biden on migration, security and development cooperation. He confirmed to me that he will be traveling to Mexico to participate in the North American Summit in December,” López said. Obrador on Twitter.
Earlier, López Obrador anticipated that the US government would ask Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard to make today’s call, and stressed that relations between the two countries “are very good”. “Our relationship is on an equal footing, respecting our sovereignty, and that’s it.”
Biden’s call comes amid the dispute Mexico has with the United States and Canada, the three signatories to the T-MEC trade deal, over the López Obrador government’s energy policy, which aims to limit foreign participation in the sector.
The appeal also comes as thousands of Venezuelan migrants remain stranded in southeastern Mexico awaiting safe passage to reach the US border, while dozens continue to be deported, following a recent decision by the White House. .
