“DFrom the Democratic Unitary Platform, we condemn the judicial persecution against the National Assembly of 2015 by Nicolás Maduro, who, in a cowardly manner and making use of the judicial power he controls, ordered the capture of the deputies Dinorah Figuera, Marianela Fernández and Auristela Vásquez”, reports a statement released in Caracas.
The National Assembly of 2015, whose mandate has already expired, but which continues because the opposing deputies do not recognize the legislative elections of 2020 where Chavismo obtained the majority, continues, according to the document, to be legitimate.
“The National Assembly of 2015 is the legitimate institution that enjoys international recognition from important countries such as the United States, Germany, France, Canada, among others. And it has the determination to accompany the Venezuelan people in the struggle for political change, as well as in the defense and protection of the assets that belong to the Venezuelan people and that have been protected from the clutches of corruption by Maduro and his entourage,” he explains. he.
In the document, the opposition expresses “full solidarity” with the “three courageous women” in the face of “this persecution”.
“Similarly, we call on the international community and human rights organizations to be very aware of what could be a new wave of persecution against NA members beginning in 2015.”
Opposition leader Juan Guaidó said on social media that the “regime’s attack on” parliament in 2015 reminds the opposition to “confront the dictatorship”.
The opposition elected Dionorah Figuera (exiled in Spain) and two vice-presidents – Marianela Fernández (exiled in the United States) and Auristela Vasquez (exiled in Spain) – respectively, from the parties Primo Justiça, Um Novo Tempo at the head of the opposition parliament and Democratic Action.
The new president of the opposition parliament, Dinorah Figuera, replaces Juan Guaidó and after being sworn in, called a session of the opposition parliament for next January 10, in order to swear in a delegated commission, which will assume the functions that had been entrusted to the previous caretaker government.
On December 30, the Venezuelan opposition decided to end the interim government of Juan Guaidó, created in 2019, and extended the existence of the opposition parliament elected in 2015 by one year.
