the paranoid Vitor Tavaresclass SH6 (small size), won gold in men’s doubles at the Vitória International Paralympic Badminton, in Spain, last Saturday (25). Brazil did not win any of the five games he had before the day.
Vitor and American Miles Krajewski won all three matches played on Spanish soil. The last duel opposed the Peruvians Nilton Ignacio and Hector Tunque: 2 sets to 0 (21/13 and 21/12) in 25 minutes of play.
At the start of the competition, the Brazilian and the American beat the Canadians Wyatt Lightfoot and Justin Kendrick, also by 2 sets to 0 (21/7 and 21/19). In the second match, they beat the French Maxime Greboval and the Spaniard Ivan Segura Escobar: another result of 2 sets to 0 (partial 21/13 and 21/17).
In singles, the man from Paraná was eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Briton Krysten Coombs, this Friday 24, after losing by 2 sets to 0 (partial 21/13 and 21/8).
Other Brazilians
Vitor’s medal in doubles was Brazil’s only in the competition. Also this Saturday, for the WH1 class (people in wheelchairs), three Brazilians played matches valid for the quarter-finals. On the men’s side, Marcelo Conceição was beaten by Muhammad Ikhwan of Malaysia by 2 sets to 0 (21/8 and 21/13).
In the female category, the country had two representatives. Auricélia Evangelista was defeated by the Japanese Sarina Satomi (6/21 and 2/21), while Daniele Souza lost to the Belgian Man-Kei To (8/21 and 5/21).
In the mixed bracket of the SL3-SU5 classes (athletes with lower and upper limb disabilities), Brazil saw two pairs eliminated by the duo Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila of Indonesia. In the round of 16, Yuri Rodrigues and Adriane Spinetti lost to the Indonesians by 2 sets to 0 (21/4 and 21/8). In the quarterfinals, Rogério de Oliveira and Edwarda Dias lost with a double 21/6.
