Weilers announce starting roster for 2023 season

The Rio Preto Weilers squad started 2023 with the announcement of seven reinforcements and according to the board, at least three more players are expected to arrive by early February. From the 2022 cast, the main athletes have remained and the team is motivated for the challenges of this year.

Weilers will fight for São Paulo’s fourth championship in the SPFL League which begins March 5 against São Bernardo Avengers at 2 p.m. at Teixeirão Stadium in Rio Preto. “We are going to come much stronger this year. Fans can expect good results,” said team manager Matheus Camargo.

Also in the first half, Weilers will participate in the Taça Brasil de Futebol Americano, an elimination tournament and the first challenge is the executioner of 2022, the football team Atlético Mineiro. The match will take place on March 18, at 5 p.m., in Belo Horizonte.

In the second half, the focus will be on the Brazilian Championship, where Weilers came third in the 2022 edition. The women’s and men’s flag sports have yet to set their schedules, but the board remain confident of achieve good results for 2023.

Among the highlights arriving for this season is kicker Lucas Valente, who comes from Sorocaba. He has just been selected to participate in a tryout for the Canadian Football League. Another highlight is linebacker (defensive) André Vilela. He arrives from Minas Gerais to reinforce Weilers. He is an athlete with a lot of physical strength and potential for development. “The young David Prince, runner, will be able to help our attack even more”, comments Camargo.

Renewed with the team, Luan Rocha, offensive lineman, 20-year-old athlete, who will also be part of the Canadian league selection. Augusto Miguel, an offensive lineman, is another rookie, in addition to Lucas Caravita, a young quarterback (pitcher).

The CFL, Canadian Professional American Football League, in partnership with the CBFA (Brazilian American Football Confederation) has selected 43 athletes from Brazil to participate in a test on February 11 in Itapecerica da Serra. Athletes will have the opportunity to receive an invitation to turn professional and play in Canada. Of the 43 names, seven belong to the Weilers, which was the Brazilian team that provided the most athletes for the selective. They are: Lucas Valente, Luan Rocha, João Mendes, Augusto Câmara, Leo Rezende, Edvan and Lucas Caravita.
