Wildfire smoke blankets Canadian skies and crawls along US east coast | national newspaper

Smoke from wildfires in Canada spreads to the northeastern United States

Toxic smoke from Canada’s wildfires has spread to the east coast of WE and worried about the health risks.

Washington woke up on Thursday (8) covered in smoke and filled with the smell of burning.

“It affects the daily lives of people who cannot go out, cancel their plans. It’s very scary. And it’s still something that awaits us in the future,” says a woman.

Washington’s iconic buildings and landmarks have all but disappeared behind the smoke. And for the first time in history, the American capital is placed on high alert because of the air dangerous to health.

Schools have canceled outdoor activities. Team Washington’s baseball game was postponed and the White House postponed an LGBT pride event that was scheduled to take place that evening.

There are still fires across Canada. President Joe Biden said he had offered the Canadian government all the help it needed, including more firefighters and equipment to fight the blaze. The situation is more serious in the East – where the most populous provinces are located: Ontario and Quebec.

Smoke continues to drift across the United States and is expected to cross the ocean and be seen as far as Norway.

In New York, which on Wednesday (7) had the most dangerous air to breathe on the planet, the government is distributing a million masks. The situation has improved, but the sky is still covered in smoke.

The state governor insisted, “It’s not safe to be outside. Mainly for young children. Today and tomorrow – it will not be a good idea to leave”.

A New York resident heard by the report traveled to Washington for a climate change protest outside the White House.

“Climate change is real. We have to open our eyes now,” he said.
