Women’s sitting volleyball team wins World Cup gold and places in Paris-2024 – 11/11/2022

The Brazilian women’s sitting volleyball team made history this Friday. The national team won the gold medal in the competition and won the unprecedented title of world champion in the modality. The event took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They played in the final against Canada. The victory was in the tie-break by 3 sets to 2 – with the partials of 25/23, 18/25, 21/25, 25/17 and 15/6. Brazil had a close first set. In the third, they opened up an advantage, but the Canadians won. The Brazilians recovered well in the fourth half. Along with winning gold as world champions, the girls secured a spot at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

“We are very united, I think it gave us strength. The team was very confident. We took the key passage very difficult, we faced the USA in the semi, with a historic victory. , with a new coach and a bench that manages to change very well. This gold medal and the vacancy for Brazil in Paris-2024 is a dream”, celebrated the athlete Luiza Fiorese.

The Brazilian women’s team already holds two Paralympic bronze medals, won at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games. In this World Cup, they have had an impeccable campaign, with six victories in six matches.

Retrospection

The Brazilians and the Canadians faced each other twice at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. In both clashes, Brazil beat the rival selection by 3 sets to 1. The first duel was for the first phase, while the second was for third place.

At the Dutch Sitting Volleyball Tournament, held in the city of Assen, the Netherlands, in July this year, the Canadians won and defeated Brazil by 3 sets to 0.

The men’s team won bronze against Egypt with a victory in 3 sets.
