WORLD CUP | Latest news, results and more

For many, getting a place for a World Cup is considered a real achievement. But some teams that were so lucky didn’t even manage to score a goal in the competition. O sports weather lists the 5 countries that have never shaken the nets of the competition.

The first team to “go blank” in a World Cup was the Dutch East Indies, in the 1958 Cup. In their defense, today’s Indonesia have the fact of having played only one single match (at the time, the match was a knockout round; whoever lost was eliminated from the competition).

Four other selections, however, cannot use the fact as an “apology”. All of them took part in the first phase of a Cup, having played three matches.

In 1974, Zaire, who were in the Brazil group, did not score a single goal in the competition. And still found himself beaten 9-0 by Yugoslavia, in one of the biggest defeats in the history of the World Cups.

In 1986, it was the turn of a Concacaf representative to play in a Cup and not score: Canada which, to make matters worse, ended up being beaten in the three matches played. Now, in Qatar, the Canadians will have the chance to break that uncomfortable fast.

In 2002, one of the Asian representatives was the one who remained the three matches without a goal: China. Coincidentally, the team was also in the Brazil group at that time.

The last team to play in a World Cup and fail to score was Trinidad Tobago in 2006, Germany.
