is in progress Pan Am Badminton 2023 in Kingston, Jamaica and Brazil show their continental strength in the sport. We are in the third of four days of the dispute and the competition is shrinking, even so, Brazil continues with athletes winning their matches and advancing to the semi-finals (which in badminton means the bronze medal).

Brazil took 13 athletes in their delegation and, with the exception of men’s doubles, we reached at least the quarter-finals in all categories.

At single male Ygor Coelho defeated Howard Shu (USA) and in the semi-finals he will face Brian Yang, representing Canada. Both have already achieved at least bronze. Another Brazilian, Jonathan Matias, even won the first set, but after almost an hour of play, he lost 2-1 to Salvadoran Uriel Francisco Canjura Artiga. Eliminated, Jonathan was in the top 8, while Uriel will face Kevin Cordon (GUA) who beat the Brazilian Davi Silva in the quarter-finals. Davi was also in the top 8.

At single female Juliana Viana Vieira fought well, but fell to Lauren Lam (USA). With the result, the Brazilian athlete stopped in the quarterfinals among the 8 best of the tournament. Lauren Lam will face her compatriot Beiwen Zhang.

In the female doubles Sânia Lima and Juliana Viana Vieira faced Annie and Kerry Xu (USA) and despite winning the first set, they failed to defeat their opponents and left the competition in the top 8. In the semi-finals, the Americans will face Canadians Catherine Choi and Josephine Wu.

Finally, in mixed doubles Fabrício Farias and Jaqueline Lima defeated Peruvians Jose Guevara and Ines Lucia Castillo Salazar and advanced to the semi-final where they will face Canadians Ty Alexander Lindeman and Josephine Wu. The other semi-final will also see a Brazilian duo, Davi Silva and Sânia Lima, who beat Americans Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai and will now face Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Rachel Honderich (CAN). Since there is no contest for third place in badminton, Brazil got at least two bronze medals.
