Brazil beat USA to secure top spot in Copa America Group A

In her last match for the Copa America group stage in women’s basketball, the Brazil beat USA 67-54 to secure top spot in Group A with four wins in four games.


Tainá Paixão was the big Brazilian name of the triumph. The point guard tallied 23 points and finished as the game’s top scorer. Pivot Kamilla Soares also helped a lot with 10 points and six rebounds.


Again the team came back to exchange passes very effectively and gave a bath in terms of assists. In total, there were 16 assists from Brazil compared to only four from the United States, which also shows that the Brazilian defense played very well.


Finally, Brazil stopped making so many mistakes and managed the ball much better, committing nine errors. And more than that, USA suffered from Brazil’s intensity and ended up with 21 errors, more than twice as many as Brazil.


In the quarter-finals of the Copa America, Brazil will face the fourth-placed team from Group B. Colombia and Mexico are the main candidates to enter the Brazilian path in the knockout stage of the competition. The Wednesday duel will take place next Friday (7).


Ranked first in their group, Brazil takes a step ahead of the USA and Canada, the main favorites before the start of the competition, until the final of the Copa America. The United States must finish second in Group A, while the Canadians are unbeaten after two games in Group B. The two Copa América finalists qualify for the pre-Olympic World Cup.
